Gundagai’s Criterion Hotel is an art deco pub but also a hidden jewel located at the northern gateway of the Snowy valleys Way. Outside the burgundy exterior will catch your eye, but the real treasures are inside. Open the door and walk into an artistic wonder with bars featuring murals of Australian bush rangers and the Great Gundagai flood of 1852.
Bushwalkers and nature lovers can enjoy great food mixed with traditional Aussie hospitality at many hotels across the Snowy Valleys Way touring region. The Woolpack Hotel at Tumut provides easy access to everything that Tumut has to offer, a great ‘home base’ to explore the Kosciuszko National Park and Yarrangobilly Caves. The caves formed a belt of limestone that was laid down approximately 440 million years age, the caves are some of the most beautiful to be found in Australia; located along the Snowy Valleys Way.
The Koetong Hotel is located about mid-way along the Snowy Valleys Way; a quaint establishment built around 1883 as a coach house and respite for travelers on Cobb and Co Coaches. Situated 30km east of Tallangatta and 50km west of Corryong on the Murray valley Highway, this hotel has been given the title of the "Highest hotel in Victoria" by the chairman of Tourism Australia, Mr. Tim Fisher.

King parrots and crimson rosellas swoop in to be ritually fed each afternoon. It's a colourful spectacle and one to certainly entertain.On the last Sunday of every month the local Koetong Bush Band performs for your enjoyment.

Further south you may choose to detour along the Mitta Valley to the Dartmouth Tavern, it caters primarily for the fisherman with many trophy fish on display and the locals only too happy to share a tale or two about their catch for the day. When Dartmouth Dam is full it holds 7 times more water than Sydney Harbour but this new man made landscape should be seen by everyone.
Maybe you’d love to cycle along the Murray to the Mountains Rail Trail from Beechworth and then take a break with friends at the one of the six historic hotels in Beechworth?
